my little rag doll

i wanted to share with you a special little creation
that has grown on me..meet lil' lady emma
she was created as a birthday present, as i remember
correctly rather last minute 3-4 am, the night before
and i distinctly recall feeling wonderfully satisfied
as many artists, musicians, cooks etc. can attest to
after your creation sits finished and full of every last
ounce of your passion, love and ability
a struggle to form and fashion your vision into
a reality actually forms new connections in your brain
and part of the post creative rush is a mellow
hum of  completion and one of a small victory
that's not to say that there are no faults or imperfections
in it, but as i age i tend to view the very
variances as the true beauty of the piece.

Little Emma has a muslin body, lovingly held and furried felt hair
hand painted face, an eyelet under-dress, which you can see
peeking from the top & bottom of her outfit, a long calico tank
and my very favorite, a comfy thin corduroy skirt, of
which i made one for myself but in a more librarian length
of which i wear far too often, a version of it will be included
in the next shop update on friday dec. 18th, (along with
some very new & exciting couture pieces i've been
laboring on), the ragged teal silk ribbon was from a
very feminine lady friend.
This little doll, even though was intended as a gift
for my favorite girl ever, ended up living with me
she sleeps with me and sits on my neatly made bed
amongst my hand embroidered pillowcases
and purple velvet bedding.
i've been desperately debating whether or not
to offer these sweet little dolls for acquisition in
the shop...? what do you think?

well i'm off to finish off this snack of fresh raspberries
string cheese, frozen cranberries and a very big
almond bear claw danish~
happy winter weekend all you sweet things

illustrating mushrooms

Preparing the sweet little set above for their journey across the earths surface
to a lovely lady in Australia, who commissioned these for her own Christmas gift..:O)
so i thought i'd start a special offer of two matching illustrated cards,
i had such a wonderfully joyful time creating them, i will be offering them
separately in the shop starting this week.
It has indeed been a rather mush-roomy kind of fall weekend here,
cloudy skies that promise rain
has me bundled up and sleeping late

I hope you will join me over @ Face Book, i recently joined and am having a ball~

Paintings... a bit of history & Painting ...

hi there!
I thought id share some of my former life tonight,
before i began make what i currently am creating,
my studio was filled with painting and ceramics..
and the transition back into fabric was an essential one for me
as it was one of the first mediums after writing that i worked
with when i was younger, embroidering, sewing, weaving..
then in my teen years i launched into painting, at first it was
only with oils on big canvases, most of which have been in
peoples private collections since 1999,
somewhere between there i was creating sculptures in clay, mushroom sculptures
to be exact, of which i am playing with the possibility of bringing back on board this year.?.
Anyway i find it slightly funny that i ended up creating mushrooms in plush form,
but the years of sculpting them in clay has contributed immensely to their
overall look and feel, which i am happy with.
Okay back to painting, exactly. with the latest move of shops i was able to offer
some pieces from my private collection, these are the paintings i have held on to over the years,
many for sentimental - emotional reasons, but the sheer re-exposure of them has
once again sparked a desire and urge to bring out my brushes and paint once again,
so tonight after this post, i am headed for the canvas ~
i promise to show you what the fruits of my creative labor produce tonight..
In the meantime i thought you'd like a selected
(read what images i found roaming around my hard drive) collection of past works:

note: if the title says Available check ye old shop
~*~
I do hope your weekend has started off wonderfully
and that you are filled with joy, laughter and yummy food!

Well I'm off ~ i can't wait much longer & must be off my easel is calling..

I had a wonderful time creating these mushrooms for the show,
I knew I wanted to include my Original Daddy & Baby Fly Agaric &
Sweet Momma & Child Bolete Mushrooms, but the
Winter Forest Mushroom is an Exclusive for the show..
This is one that was designed, and created completely
off the cuff and from the pure mycologist passion
that runs in these veins, I remember sitting on my bed with the window open,
birds chirping, lizards scurrying and a fresh cup of frothy steaming
Japanese Matcha Green Tea...Took a few centering deep
breaths, and without ant sketching, planning researching
created, by and by this little guy emerged~

This Winter Forest Mushroom will be available for sale in the Shop
beginning tomorrow, in a Limited Edition Run of 10 ~

I do apologize for being away for soo long, I have been filling
my days with lots of reading, teaching, mountain exploring
and here's my real secret..the first rough, repeat Rough
draft of a book.
Writing was and will always be my first true love, and after many
years of being separated, i finally gave in and fully embraced
my calling, when something flows so naturally and feels so right
you know it is. I will naturally slowly reveal more about
the subject of the book and the proccess over the next few months,
but suffice to say it is all consuming in a very very satisfying manner.
I am happy.
I will continue to accept a very small amount of commissions
for the Mushrooms, Adornments, Sakura Wedding Collection (which
I have some very interesting new pieces to add soon
Birdcage Veils, Wedding Night Boudoir sets) and I have
moved once again to my all in one home over at etsy,
so I can include my Original Paintings,
many of which I finally feel ready to part with, along
with new pieces as they become available.

Thank You for your continued interest, and patience
with my erratic postings, of which, I foresee
now that I've passed the minor mid-life-crisis
I went through this summer, I should be settled
enough to get on with it.
Stay posted, I have lots of things to share with you
that accumulated over this hiatus.

ode to my mountain & a very stunning metal building

how long little brittle brush have you been here?
mountain how many times have the clouds touched your peaks
the wind rustles our branches
birds send their warning call
every moment changes
the way it all looks
I am an infant to the desert
which seems to have a collective soul
the deeper I go the more life is shown
if only i had wings
I'd skim the craggy mountainside
nestle deep in its valley folds
here is the constant reminder of the cycle of life
mighty saguaro its creamy white blossoms held tightly
to its chest awaiting its perfect moment to open its bloom
and next to it is a bent over shaded grey skeleton of a native tree
you are amazing
I feel you everywhere
from the smallest cloud
to the blazing orange sun that's on its way down

~*~
I had slipped away after settling on my back porch to read in the low moving clouds that day
and it took but a few seconds to realize where I wanted to be
I drove to her . my mountain
where i have been pulled to like a speck of iron to its huge magnet
i was blessed with such pure moments of silent fortitude
many little creatures came out from their burrows to see me
a small little hispanic girl, clutching her notebook in the wind
standing arms outstretched to the mountain the sky the sun
everything made sense
and as I walked the trails back home i felt an overwhelming love for all mankind
like I wanted to cook anyone i saw a wonderful meal and share thier life's stories
we are all here together
i think we forget that
we all wonder the same things
all want to figure it out

~*~
These pictures are of my favorite piece of local architecture
it faces my mountain
I love the use of metal
the striking beauty of the often bright blue sky against the well worn rusted metal
is just too much for me
i want to perch on the edge

First Ever Sakura Design Studio Contest & Flamenco !

well hello again
i hope you are completely engulfed in the mysteries of spring
i am
captivated with the promise of abundant growth
this new life almost palpable
the other day i was checking out at a local joanns fabric
and before the pile had been rung up my two boys ran
hurriedly to grab some candy , as i said they could have
i called out to find me some turtles
the lady that was ringing me up began to make comments
like umm turtles, so yummy i love those
so at the end of the transaction i offered her one
she replied she couldn't
"my thighs, my waist, my head"...
& I said well if you smile enough today you'll work it all off won't you?
took out a chocolate turtle ~ and held it out for her
she proceeded to turn red and smiled the biggest smile
as i further urged her..go on take it you deserve it!
she was gushing very heart felt thank yous as she popped it in her grinning mouth
as we walked away my eldest son said oh how nice of you mom!
we then spent the next hour talking about sharing & connecting with each other as humans
so this was the idea i had about the contest
i encourage you to find ways to share yourself in any small way
to do anything to make someone you do not know smile
because i want to spread the benefits i will keep this contest open for a month
and on July 7th, i will randomly pull a name out of my very favorite gardening hat
that person will get to choose any item from any shop to have created just for themselves
i like knowing that these small acts are like a small ripple in the pond
~*~
On other inspirations.... Today I wanted to share with you , a very special thing in my life ~
Ever since I was very, very young..I used to fall asleep with visions of myself dancing my own special way of dancing,
which would send me into a very special place, where I was free and full of passion & emotion, where it was okay to have such...
It wasn't until later in life that I recognized the posturing and hand movements as the traditional Gypsy/ Spanish art of Flamenco. Also during this time I had began to do some genealogy research, and found out that on my mothers side, there was the surname of Chacon, that was traced back to a male ancestor that came to America on one of the four boats with Christopher Columbus,
so I finally validated the pull of that culture to my spirit...When doing a basic google search for the name Chacon..
came across a woman named
Julia Chacon, who is an absolutely wonderful Flamenco Dancer & teacher,
after emailing her and pondering the fact that both of our families were from the very Northern Part of New Mexico..
how interesting. Anyway as soon as I can, I have made an intention to study Flamenco with her in Santa Fe ~
But until then..I give you what I find as some of the most personally stirring performances of the legendary Carmen Ayama

my favorite place

my hand skims the surface of the deep still water
its mysteries enthrall my senses
i visit it often
sometimes emerging my entire body
lying on its banks afterwards
sometimes i just lay in my little boat
and gaze as deep down as light will take me
there is so much life
all around me
running through me

over full with emotion

edith piaf is one of my very favorite singers of all time
i can identify with any artist that puts it all out there for the taking
and not afraid to show emotion

i am finding ways to do the same in my personal life
slowly finding my way up out of illusions of myself
is strangely satisfying

im finding myself singing again everywhere
letting words of songs pour out of myself
is like freeing the caged bird within
heal thyself
anyway you can
i say to myself these days

so today i give you my beloved  edith piaf

and soo recommend the fabulous movie based on her life ~

as soon as i untangle myself from my emotions
i will be back with the give away
say what would you like me to give you anyway....?

xoxo
